Plastic injection molding is a critical part of the supply chain, and mold making is a critical part of injection molding. In fact, mold making is considered the genesis of manufacturing because you cannot make plastic products without some type of mold to shape them.
Employment is expected to grow
Ontario, employed 48,625 people in 2021 in the plastics and rubber subsector, a 21.7% increase from the previous year. Ontario employs 51.4% of the plastics and rubber manufacturing sector for all of Canada.
$4.9B in GDP / 6% overall
The plastics manufacturing subsector in Ontario produced $4.9B in gross domestic product (GDP) in 2021, representing 6.1% of the overall manufacturing GDP in the province.

Life Cycle Assessments demonstrate that plastic is the best material across many applications to reduce emissions outputs, reduce the use of water and energy and most efficiently use valuable resources.
